Board of Directors’ Meeting

Dunstan School, Scarborough, Maine
- Call to Order – Vice President Dick Lambert called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.
- Calling of the Roll of Officers: Jodine Adams, Jon Reed, Freeman Abbott, Barbara Skelton, Dabney Lewis, Al Farris, Paul Demers, Kathy Joiner, Dick Lambert and Joan Kiszely (MMA).
Absent: Tim Nelson and Bruce Smith.
It was determined there was a quorum.
- Reading of the Minutes of the Previous Meeting:
- March 19, 2009 – Motion made by Jodine Adams, seconded by Dabney Lewis, all approved the March 19, 2009 Board Minutes.
- April 16, 2009 – Motion made by Dabney Lewis, seconded by Jon Reed, all approved the April 16, 2009 Board Minutes.
- March 19, 2009 – Tabled until Dick Lambert updates.
- Bills:
Barbara Skelton reported on the following:
- Golf Shirt: $48.30
Motion made by Jodine Adams, seconded by Dabney Lewis, all approved to pay the bill to the embroidery company for the golf shirt.
- Communications:
- Request for support of officers for International Code Council.
- MMA – Quality of Service Survey.
- Update from Bruce Johnson regarding links to International Code Council Updates.
The following links are as follows:
- Stimulus Tool Kit.
- Community Building Code Administration Grant Act.
- Call for Award Nominations.
- Code Council presents free 2009 I-Code Overview Webinars.
- Major revision to the code development process, By-law change proposals posted, Fall 2009 ABM and Code Development Hearing Schedule.
- Report of Officer’s and Treasurer’s Report:
- Report of the Officer’s and Treasurer’s Report – Barb Skelton reported on the financials from March 18, 2009 through June 17, 2009 to present.

There was a brief discussion in regards to the MBOIA website. It was noted that MMA would charge $300 to host the website. Barbara noted that we could possibly save some money by having MMA host the website. Janice Tevanian will email Dick Lambert the fees to hosting a website and the entire list of services.
Motion made by Freeman Abbott to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented; seconded by Jon Reed, all approved.
- Report of Committees:
- Education Committee – Jonathan Reed reported on speakers that he will still get for the September meeting. He mentioned these speakers at the April meeting and are noted in the April Minutes. Steven Adams Czyk and Wayne Burril were noted as the speakers.
- Jodine Adams reported on a multi-speaker workshop that will be held on June 30, 2009 at the Wells High School Auditorium from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The topics are State Plumbing Inspector, State Electrical Inspector and Roger Rossignol from Salmon Falls Architects. This is a free workshop. This workshop is opened to plumbers, LPI’s, electricians, code officers, contractors and fire personnel. Jodine Adams will send a list to MMA and Joan Kiszely will send to Lona LaPlante-Ellis, State Planning Office.
- NEBOEA/ESBOF – Paul Demers reported they all missed the last meeting. No report.
- Legislative Committee – Dick reported the Legislation has adjourned. He reported on the following Bills:
- Carbon Monoxide Bill passed.
- State Building Code passed.
- Technical Advisory Group – Stakeholders will be notified. Ann Jordan will have the final say to who sits on the Stakeholder’s Board.
- Unfinished Business:
- MBOIA Shirts and Logo – Joan Kiszely needs to get a list to Dick Lambert. They gave Joan two shirts so she could find out who ordered them and Joan is to send the shirts to them.
- New Business:
- New Members – Motion made Barbara Skelton, seconded by Freeman Abbott, all approved Benjamin McDugal from the town of York as a new member to MBOIA.
- MBOIA role in Statewide Education – Dick Lambert reported that they are talking about putting a school together next April or May. They would like Joan Kiszely to look at Central Maine Technical Community College, Kennebec Valley Technical Community College, and Point Lookout to host this program. They are looking at wanting four or five breakout rooms in late March, April or May. The critical part is getting the facility and then getting the education.
- Out-of-State participation in Professional Organization – It was noted that not many can attend these meetings.
- The Good and Welfare of the Association – Janice Tevanian, Educational Manager Services gave a brief update on what her role is at MMA. She talked about the survey she put out and what she is looking the outcome to be. She updated them on the addition of the new building. She noted that MBOIA would not have to pay Joan Kiszely or a MA Representative mileage as MBOIA cannot meet at MMA. She reported that she can help them with any training programs.
- Adjournment – Freeman Abbott made a motion to adjourn; seconded by Jodine Adams, all approved to adjourn the meeting at 10:10 a.m.
